Museum of Cider

Hereford Cider Museum Trust is an Independent Charitable Trust and was founded in 1973 to preserve the history of cider making worldwide. The extensive collection includes cider mills, presses, bottles, old photographs, watercolours, advertising memorabilia and a rare collection of English lead crystal cider flutes. It is housed in the original 1888 Bulmer’s factory, and it tells the story of cidermaking across Britain, although local social history of course features very strongly.

The museum continues to collect artefacts associated with the history of cider making and has achieved Accreditation status (awarded by the Arts Council, England) for its standards of care applied to the collection.

The Archive of Cider Pomology – www.ArchiveOfCiderPomology.co.uk – is sponsored by the National Association of Cider Makers and provides a central depository for documents, books, images, maps and oral histories. The archive provides reserach facilities on subjects including orcharding, and cider and perry production. To make an appointment to view the archive email collections@cidermuseum.co.uk.

The Museum is located to the West of the city of Hereford, off the A438 Brecon Road.  It is situated close to Sainsbury’s supermarket and the Travelodge. Free parking on site (please do not park by the side of the gym.) It is a 10 minute walk from the city centre.

Physical accessibility: the ground floor is fully accessible for wheel chair users and there is a computer available showing the cellar displays. The Tea Room and toilets are situated on the ground floor and there is a lift giving access to the Beam Press Gallery. As the cellars are not accessible to those with mobility problems, this will be reflected in the admission price you are charged. Your carer goes free.

There is an onsite shop specialising in craft cider and other gifts, and the tearoom offers fresh light refreshments.
