The Great Western Railway Museum

The Great Western Railway Museum, founded in 1988, is housed in one of the last remaining permanent railway buildings in the Forest of Dean on the site of Coleford’s railway yard.

The site is full of local railway history and artefacts and you can also view a restored full size Peckett locomotive in the engine shed, an original 1883 GWR Goods Shed, a restored working signal box plus a replica Victorian rail carriage and other locomotives including passenger and steam models.

There is also a railway shop and bookshop for you to browse.
